Kings Cup (Ring of Fire)
The most popular card-based drinking game in the world. Each card in the deck has a unique rule. Players take turns drawing cards and following the rules until all cards are drawn.
Setup
- Place a large cup (the Kings Cup) in the center of the table.
- Spread a full deck of cards face-down in a circle around the cup.
- Each player needs their own drink.
- Sit in a circle around the table.
Card Rules
Everyone starts drinking. You can only stop when the person to your right stops. The card drawer starts and stops first.
Point at someone. They drink.
The drawer drinks.
Everyone must touch the floor. Last person drinks.
All guys/men drink.
All girls/women drink.
Everyone points to the sky. Last person drinks.
Pick a drinking buddy. They drink whenever you drink for the rest of the game.
Say a word. Go clockwise — everyone must rhyme. First to fail or repeat drinks.
Name a category (e.g., 'car brands'). Go clockwise naming items. First to fail or repeat drinks.
Create a rule everyone must follow for the rest of the game. Break it? Drink.
You are the Question Master until the next Queen is drawn. Anyone who answers your questions must drink.
Pour some of your drink into the Kings Cup. The person who draws the 4th King drinks the entire cup.
Pro Tips
- House rules are sacred — agree on them before starting.
- The 'Make a Rule' Jack is the most powerful card. Get creative!
- Popular custom rules: no pointing, no saying 'drink', no first names.
- If the ring of cards is broken (a gap appears), the person who broke it drinks.
Beer Pong
The legendary party game. Two teams stand at opposite ends of a table and throw ping pong balls into each other's cups. When a ball lands, the opposing team drinks that cup.
Setup
- Set up 10 cups in a triangle formation (4-3-2-1) on each end of the table.
- Fill each cup with about 1/3 beer (or use water cups and drink separately).
- Each team stands behind their triangle.
- Determine who goes first with a behind-the-back shoot-off (eye contact, no looking at cups).
Rules
- Teams alternate throwing one ball each per turn.
- If a ball lands in a cup, the opposing team drinks that cup and removes it.
- Both teammates make a cup on the same turn? That is 'Balls Back' — shoot again.
- Bounces count as 2 cups, but opponents can swat bounced shots.
- Blowing/fingering: If the ball is spinning inside a cup, some house rules allow you to blow or finger it out before it settles.
- Re-racks: Each team gets 2 re-racks per game (rearrange remaining cups into a tighter formation).
- The team that eliminates all opposing cups wins.
- Redemption: The losing team gets one last turn to try to force overtime. If they clear all remaining cups, the game goes to overtime with 3 cups each.
Pro Tips
- Aim for the back cups — they are statistically easier to hit.
- Arc your shots; a higher arc has a better chance of landing.
- Keep your elbows behind the table edge (leaning is a foul in most house rules).
- Use water in the cups and drink separately for hygiene.
Flip Cup
A high-energy relay-race drinking game. Two teams face off across a table. Chug your drink, then flip your cup upside-down by flicking the rim with your fingers.
Setup
- Divide into two equal teams.
- Line up on opposite sides of a table, facing your opponent.
- Each player has a cup filled with an equal amount of drink.
Rules
- On 'Go', the first players on each team chug their drink.
- After finishing, place the cup right-side-up on the table edge with part of it hanging over.
- Flick the bottom of the cup to flip it upside-down (it must land cleanly).
- Once your cup is flipped, the next teammate in line goes.
- Continue relay-style until all teammates have chugged and flipped.
- First team to have all members complete wins the round.
- Play best of 3, 5, or 7 rounds for a full game.
Pro Tips
- Consistency over speed — practice your flip technique.
- Use one finger for the flick, not your whole hand.
- Place roughly 1/3 of the cup hanging off the edge for the best flip angle.
- Cheer for your teammates — the energy is half the game.
Ride the Bus
A multi-round guessing game where wrong answers mean drinks. The biggest loser at the end 'rides the bus' — a brutal final round that can reset multiple times.
Setup
- One person is the dealer.
- All other players sit in a circle.
- Each player will receive 4 cards over 4 rounds.
Rules
- Round 1 — Red or Black: Guess the color of your face-down card. Wrong? Drink 1.
- Round 2 — Higher or Lower: Guess if your next card is higher or lower than your first. Wrong? Drink 2.
- Round 3 — In Between or Outside: Guess if your third card falls between or outside your first two. Wrong? Drink 3.
- Round 4 — Guess the Suit: Guess the suit of your fourth card. Wrong? Drink 4.
- After all rounds, a pyramid is built with cards face-down (5-4-3-2-1). Cards are flipped one at a time.
- If a flipped card matches any in your hand, you can place it and assign drinks to someone else (bottom row = 1 drink, top row = 5).
- The player with the most cards remaining at the end rides the bus.
- Riding the Bus: Lay out 10 cards face-down in a row. Flip them one at a time. If you flip a face card (J, Q, K, A), you drink that many sips and start over. You escape when you clear all 10 without a face card.
Pro Tips
- Statistically, guess 'black' and 'higher' for the best odds in early rounds.
- Save matching cards for the pyramid — the top rows are worth the most.
- The bus ride can be brutal. Have water nearby.
Quarters
A skill-based drinking game. Bounce a coin off the table into a shot glass. Make it? Pick someone to drink. A classic that rewards practice and coordination.
Setup
- Place a shot glass in the center of the table.
- Each player sits around the table with their drink.
- One coin (traditionally a US quarter) is shared.
Rules
- Players take turns attempting to bounce the coin off the table into the glass.
- Make it? Choose someone to drink.
- Miss? Turn passes to the next player.
- Make 3 in a row? Create a rule for the rest of the game.
- If you knock over the glass, finish your drink.
- Variation: If you make it, you shoot again until you miss.
Pro Tips
- Bounce the coin at a 45-degree angle about 6 inches from the glass.
- Consistent technique beats force every time.
- Use a heavier coin for more control.
Power Hour
Take a shot of beer every 60 seconds for one hour. 60 shots = roughly 6 beers. It sounds easy. It is not.
Setup
- Each player needs a shot glass and plenty of beer.
- Use a Power Hour playlist (songs change every 60 seconds) or set a repeating timer.
- Have water and snacks accessible.
Rules
- Every 60 seconds (or every time the song changes), everyone takes a shot of beer.
- 60 shots in 60 minutes. A standard shot glass of beer per minute adds up to about 6 beers.
- Anyone who misses a shot, spills, or quits faces a penalty.
- Century Club variation: 100 shots in 100 minutes for the truly bold.
- Survivors celebrate. Quitters get roasted.
Pro Tips
- Use light beer — heavy craft beers will wreck you.
- Eat a big meal beforehand.
- Keep water nearby and hydrate between rounds.
- The last 15 minutes are where it gets real.
